Money Urged for Colleges to Perform Job Training

This Monday, President Obama Decided to propose a bill that would send eight billion dollars to community colleges for the specific purpose of career training. The bill would hopefully help our suffering economy by adding more skills to the workforce, and in turn creating more jobs and a better workforce/economy. This is a very important bill as community colleges have been what most low-income families have been turning to in our current economic downswing. Having good education that leads to high paying jobs could help the current jobs problems that America faces. All this is obvious to almost everyone, but there is a problem. This is that the 8 billion is also needed elsewhere in America where we now don’t have enough money to pay for our needs, even if they are supremely important. However, education is where our power should come from. Good education can help solve almost all of our current problems and should be worked on a lot more by our government. It shouldn’t be just limited to community colleges either, serious changes need to be made to our school systems that are currently doing horrifically. It may not seem so serious at Gunn, but outside our bubble schools are not doing well at all.

  1. I agree with this post about how the 8 billion dollars should also go to high schools. If our youth doesn't go to a good high school where they are motivated by teachers to do better, then they won't try to get a scholarship to college. If they go to a high school like Gunn where kids are motivated at home and at school, more of them will try to get into a good college on a scholarship. Around the bay area, many budget cuts had to be made. Many schools have "ski week" and that was only added because of budget cuts. The reason palo alto schools do not have ski week is because Palo Alto is a wealthy area where schools do not need to cut down on money. It is a very good idea to send 8 billion dollars to community colleges but I think half of that should go to high schools for the exact reasons I listed above.
